I went to Borough Market and I bought:
- Globe artichoke hearts from Borough Olives
- Arabica Hummous
- A tangy chunk of White Cheshire cheese
- Pate Moi (best I’ve ever had) mushroom pate
- A big loaf of rye bread from The Flour Station
- Fleur de sel de Noirmoutier
- Crème Fraiche
- And a couple of large chocolate brownies
I could have bought - olives, pesto, chillies, more bread, more cheese, beautiful veg and fruit an Aunt Alice steamed pudding, all sorts of DeGustibus marvels… (Of course there is also plenty of fish and meat stuff but not for me, thanks.)
I went to Borough Market and I also bought felafel with salad and pickles in flatbread. I then went about 20 yards to Southwark Cathedral’s yard and I ate this in the warming February sunshine.
All this in just under an hour on Friday. An hour packed with colour, smells, tastes, textures, sounds, sun, smiles, good service, anticipation of good food later. A welcome contrast to Woolwich, from whence I had come, and a much appreciated chance to slow my busy brain before going for the train home.
And if you’re wondering.
